One sentence overview: I have worked freelance and on-staff as a graphics designer, newspaper editor, writer, ad copywriter, communications
director, video editor/photographer, print and media designer, cinematographer and
commercial producer for a variety of employers and clients. Some examples: a large nonprofit
organization (AARP-Washington, DC), TV network (GAN-Beverly Hills, CA), environmental companies and assorted businesses of various types.
As a member of Adobe Creative Suite, and long before those programs were offered in a package, I used Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Premiere, AfterEffects, to name the majors while not forgetting the standard design and production programs of Apple, as well as "independents" such as Studio Artist and Topaz. In short, I search out, license and use programs that make design and production work go faster and smoother.
My years of overseeing projects such as managing statewide political
advocacy campaigns in California to shooting stills and video of special events.
With 20 years experience as a working writer, photographer, videographer, editor,
designer and cinematographer, excepting the last category, I continue to work in
those capacities today as well as in the areas of strategic communications.
I have shot and produced a number of commercials, music videos, shorts and documentaries.
In 2003, a Memphis crew joined me with one week notice before a big event--the Lewis-Tyson
bout in Memphis. I directed, shot and edited Fight Night on Beale Street, a multi-cam
documentary that examined the city's response to the event. In other assignment projects,
I have been an official photographer for the MidSouth Fair
, movies, corporations and have been a cinematographer/videographer on
projects shot in Los Angeles, Washington, DC and Memphis.
I produce, write and design in a variety of fields. For example, one recent project is producing and designing the video for an author who has written an epistolary graphic novel. If you would like to see a private mpeg4, on that project, please send a request to benqq@earthlink.net. In other projects, I have recently completed three children's photobooks, designed to be read and discussed with parents. Please go to www.countrycatfamily.com for pictures and links. A recent adult novel is HYPNOGOGUE published on barnesandnoble.com.
Last and least, I have a BA in journalism and history and MA in film.
If you have a project about which you would like to discuss, please do
