A Short, First Person Bio

Web Site
Hello, thanks for taking a look at my bio.
I have worked freelance and on-staff as a newspaper editor, writer, ad copywriter, communications
director, video editor/photographer, Web and internet media designer, cinematographer and
commercial producer for a variety of employers and clients. Some examples: a large nonprofit
organization, TV network, environmental companies and assorted businesses of various types.
I believe my years of experience overseeing projects as complex as a statewide political
advocacy campaign in California to shooting stills and video of special events has given me
a good insight into marketing, communications, advertising and producing. In other words,
what moves people.
I have over 20 years experience as a working writer, photographer, videographer, editor,
designer and cinematographer. With the rare exception of the last category I continue to work in
those capacities today as well as in the areas of strategic communications using still and
motion visuals and words as my tools.
I have shot and produced a number of commercials, music videos, shorts and documentaries.
In 2003, a Memphis crew joined me with one week notice before a big event--the Lewis-Tyson
bout in Memphis. I directed, shot and edited Fight Night on Beale Street, a multi-cam
documentary that examined the city's response to the event. In other assignment projects,
I have been an official photographer for the MidSouth Fair
, movies, corporations and have been a cinematographer/videographer on
projects shot in Los Angeles, Washington, DC and Memphis.
I enjoy developing and executing projects on an ongoing basis. One such project is
Memphis Pix News. I also shoot photography and videography on
assignment as well as independent projects. One latter project I find myself working on is
a documentary on "postbellum southern symbology" (or various feelings about
Civil War statues in public parks.)
Last and least, I have a BA in journalism and history and MA in film.
